A 0.32 mm micro-perforation, light transformed into a decorative element, and an innovation made reproducible on an industrial scale: the Autajon Group has been honoured in the Label category at the 2026 Formes de Luxe Awards for developing the world’s first self-adhesive label for wines and spirits to incorporate 0.32 mm micro-perforations in industrial production. The label was created for French Bloom in collaboration with Servaire & Co.
A world first in self-adhesive labels for wines and spirits: when light becomes a brand signature
French Bloom, a pioneering producer of premium alcohol-free sparkling wines, was looking for a label capable of visually conveying its distinctive universe. The Autajon Group developed a self-adhesive label for the brand featuring 0.32 mm micro-perforations produced on an industrial scale; a world first for the wines and spirits sector.
These micro-perforations reflect French Bloom’s winemaking philosophy: removing the alcohol while preserving the wine’s expression, allowing light to pass through the paper to reveal the “Bloom”. Conceived in collaboration with Servaire & Co, the label turns micro-perforation into a genuine graphic feature: depending on the lighting, the perforations create an effect of blossoming and effervescence that echoes the brand’s universe. The label thus evolves with its surroundings, without the need for any additional decorative effects.
From a creative idea to an industrial reality
The real challenge of the project lay in incorporating such fine micro-perforations without weakening the label or compromising its use on an industrial packaging line.
The perforations are made exclusively in the facestock, the printed layer of the self-adhesive label, without affecting the backing. This technical expertise ensures compatibility with reel-to-reel production and automatic label application on the packaging line, both essential requirements for large-scale commercialisation.
The process requires an exceptionally high degree of precision: the micro-perforation must be perfectly synchronised with the various embellishment stages to ensure accurate pattern alignment and a consistent final result.
The challenge was therefore twofold: to create an unprecedented visual effect and, above all, to make this innovation reproducible on an industrial scale.

A design built around precision
The label combines several printing and embellishment techniques while maintaining a subtle aesthetic:
- Offset printing
- Raised gloss screen-printed varnish
- Hot foil stamping
- 0.32 mm micro-perforation
These techniques are applied to a premium FSC-certified uncoated white paper, selected for its performance in an ice bucket. Each stage requires extremely precise registration: the printing, varnish, foil stamping and micro-perforation must be perfectly aligned to ensure a consistent pattern and a cohesive overall design.
Innovation achieved without adding material
The project also reflects an eco-design approach: the visual effect is achieved without adding material, by harnessing the properties of the substrate and the precision of the micro-perforation. Whereas a lighting effect would normally require an additional layer, the French Bloom label derives its luminous depth from the paper itself.
Recognition of Autajon’s expertise
This project illustrates the role the Autajon Group aims to play for its clients: that of an expert partner supporting creative ideas from the initial trials through to industrial production. A packaging specialist for over 60 years, the Group produces nearly 20 billion labels every year for a wide range of sectors, including perfumes & cosmetics, wines & spirits, and healthcare. It is this combination of technical expertise, development capabilities and a culture of tailor-made solutions that transforms projects such as this into production realities.
With French Bloom, the label goes beyond its traditional role as a graphic medium: the micro-perforation becomes a distinctive brand feature that reveals light, creates depth and gives the design an evolving character.
An award presented at the 2026 Formes de Luxe Awards
Presented during LUXE PACK Monaco, the 2026 Formes de Luxe Awards recognise outstanding achievements in luxury packaging, combining creativity with industrial engineering. For Autajon, this award highlights an essential capability: innovating by supporting creative ideas through to industrialisation, pushing the boundaries of label production processes, and demonstrating that technical innovation can become a genuine identity marker for a premium brand.
The Autajon Group would like to thank French Bloom and Servaire & Co for their trust, as well as its teams for making this innovation possible.
